John Samuel Stephenson Sr., 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, December 09, 2016 at his residence. He was born on April 8, 1935, in Sulphur Lick, Kentucky, to the late George A. and Lola B. (Parrish) Stephenson.
He served his country in the US Navy from August 1956 to August 1962.
John was married on May 26, 1961, to Shirley A. Nichols and celebrated their 55th Anniversary this past May. He retired from United Technologies in 1999 after 35 years of service as a Master Assembler and Welder.
He was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop #1 in Indianapolis while his son was active.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Nichols) Stephenson; sister, Martha Catherine Frazier; son, John Samuel Stephenson Jr.; daughters, Lynn (Stephenson) Berry & Kathy (Stephenson) Keane; grandchildren, Kristopher Canner, John Rian Keane, Samantha (Berry) Compton, Katherine Berry, Jade Keane, Mariah Keane and great grandchildren, Ian Canner, Owen Canner and Gracelyn Compton.
He was preceded in death by his father, George A. Stephenson; mother, Lola B. (Parrish) Stephenson; brothers, William Andrew Stephenson, Robert Stephenson and Charlie Stephenson; sister, Wilma Stephenson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11 am with Service at 1 pm, at Indiana Funeral Care, Harry W. Moore Chapel 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis IN 46250 – (317) 636-6464. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229 with a brief graveside ceremony.
